Brett White, B.Sc.

Brett decided to join the ranks as a surface land agent after being involved, as a landowner, in the successful negotiations of a wellsite on the family ranch.  He has since been employed full-time in the energy sector.  Brett graduated from Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana (B.Sc. Business Finance). With a proven consistent and fair negotiation style, he has flourished in the areas of relationship development and negotiations. His previous experience at an auction market allowed him first-hand experience in negotiations and communications within the agricultural community, and the opportunity to study the value of respect, trust and reputation.  His extensive experience includes Power Line, Sweet/Sour Oil and Gas surface lease, and right-of-way acquisitions on dry, irrigated and crown lands. Brett has been directly involved with the Surface Rights Board, Mediation and Appropriate Dispute Resolution processes. Brett maintains his role within the family cattle ranch, and enjoys interacting within the community at farm and cattle auction sales, as well as discussing oil and gas industry happenings in the local area.  Most recently, he has completed the family's ranch Environmental Farm Plan.

Tim Thompson, B.Sc., P.Ag.

Tim grew up on a mixed cattle and grain farming operation in Northwest Saskatchewan, and has been directly involved with agricultural production for the majority of his career. Tim graduated from the University of Saskatchewan (B.Sc. Ag) and began working in the agriculture industry helping producers with their crop production management, cost and return analysis, marketing techniques, crop nutrition and pest control agronomics on dry land and irrigation operations. His solid agricultural background and years of consulting with farm businesses has provided Tim with a strong ability to connect and communicate with landowners. During his time working in the Agricultural service industry, Tim successfully acquired a wide range of personal development training courses including the Dale Carnegie® Course, the Certified Crop Advisor designation, and has acquired his accreditation as a Professional Agrologist.  Tim has been working in Southern Alberta and Saskatchewan as a licensed Surface Land Agent, acquiring interests on dry, irrigated and crown lands for pipeline right-of-ways, surface leases and power line easements. Tim has experience and is comfortable with the preparation and the presentation of Surface Rights Board Cases and has testified as an Expert Witness in the area of general agronomy at the Court of Queens Bench level.

Sharon Troute

Born in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, Sharon grew up in the southern corners of both Saskatchewan and Alberta. Maintaining her rural roots has always been important and allowed for a better understanding of the relationships between the landowner and the company. In 1981, she began her career as a Land Administrator in Medicine Hat, Alberta, where she received training from experienced mentors who instilled in her how critically important quality of work is. Included in this teaching process was the “why” of the process; allowing for a thorough understanding of land administration. Sharon’s career evolved throughout her years of work to the point where she is now a respected mentor. Having worked with companies of all sizes - from small junior start-ups to large corporations - Sharon firmly believes that no company is too small or too large.  Sharon has had the opportunity throughout her career to work with a multitude of varying documents and procedures for both Alberta and Saskatchewan. Sharon has been involved in all aspects of surface land administration including Project Co-ordination, Surface Land Documentation, Third Party Applications, Surface Rights Board Applications and the Appropriate Dispute Resolution process. Sharon’s extensive years of work experience within the industry has also given her a thorough understanding of the ERCB's Directive 56. Sharon has a true passion for land work, and the people involved.  She understands how important Land Administration is for today’s oil and gas industry. 

Clair Fitzpatrick, M.Sc., P.Ag

Clair grew up on a cattle ranch in Southern Saskatchewan, and is still actively involved in the home ranch and farm production. Clair received his B.Sc. from Dickinson State University, North Dakota with a double major in Biology and Natural Resource Management. During his time at Dickinson State, Clair competed for the university Rodeo Team and was the Agriculture Department’s nominee for Dickinson State's Senior-of-the-Year Award.  Clair went on to complete his M.Sc. in Rangeland Ecology from North Dakota State University.  Clair's work experience with Alberta Sustainable Resource Development (SRD) as a Rangeland Analyst/Agrologist included rangeland inventories, riparian inventories, interim Provincial Grazing Reserve Management, wellsite reclamation studies, industrial development review and conditions, statistical analysis, as well as various training sessions for the private and public sectors. Clair’s most recent position was with Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development (ARD) as the Range Specialist for the Water Quality Section, where his duties included Co-Leadership of a major nutrient management evaluation project, water quality testing, range/riparian evaluation, project management, contractor communication, management and public consultation. Throughout his government career, Clair has served on various steering committees and has worked very closely with industry and government.  He has developed very strong working relationships with his co-workers, various government and NGO personnel, industry representatives, as well as members of the farming and ranching community. Clair has also volunteered on various not-for-profit groups such as the Oldman Watershed Council. Clair has gained a wealth of experience working and coordinating diverse groups of people, and his rural background has helped him in communicating with all parties affected by a project. 

Kelly Mix

Kelly grew up on a mixed farming operation near Vulcan, Alberta and has been involved in agricultural consulting most of his working career. Kelly has over 15 years working with agricultural producers, distributors and retailers throughout Alberta. He has excelled at providing the sector with marketing strategies and production management solutions on both dry and irrigated lands. Kelly has always had a unique ability to gain both the respect and long term trust while developing concrete relationships of those within the agricultural sector. The relationships Kelly has built throughout Alberta coupled with his strong agricultural experience add to Kelly’s natural ability to conduct positive landowner consultations on behalf of the oil and gas industry.As a licensed land agent Kelly has acquired interests for pipeline right of ways and surface leases on irrigated and dry lands. Kelly’s exceptionally strong production analysis background and agricultural contacts make him a great asset in the preparation of Surface Rights Board crop loss cost/return and severed land analyses.
